Operation Overlord, the code name for the D-Day Invasion of WW2 is scrolled across this commemorative army t -shirt design. The holes in the 1944 is to represent the hail of bullets the Allies faced in the first wave of the Normandy invasion on D-Day.  The invasion, if successful, would best drain German resources and block access to key military sites. Securing a bridgehead in Normandy would allow the Allies to establish a viable presence in northern Europe for the first time since Dunkirk. 

Did You Know? The 'D' in D-Day stands simply for 'Day'  The “D” simply refers to the start day, and numbers are used to refer to what comes before and after. For example, the day before D-Day would be “D minus one,” and two days after would be “D plus two.” It’s essentially the same as the countdown for a rocket launch, when “T” is takeoff time and “minus” indicates the seconds before takeoff.
