Truly an Air Force T-shirt, in that these t-shirts were designed with the classic Allied airplanes involved in WWII. The lead plane in this air formation is a P-51 Mustang, below that is a P-38 Lightning while the classic Spitfire is making the move towards heaven. The back row shows the Lancaster Bomber, a DC 3 which were the planes that took the Para troopers of WW2 to their jumps as well as a B-25 Mitchell Bomber.
The Missing Man Formation is an aerial salute performed as part of a fly-past of aircraft at a funeral or memorial event, typically in memory of a fallen pilot, a well-known military service member or veteran, or a well-known political figure. The Missing Man Formation originated during the Second World War. If a flight crew or single pilot was shot down during a mission on the return flight home their position in the squad’s battle formation would be left empty. This signified that although they were no longer physically present, they were never forgotten. You Tube is so phenomenal as are our Soldiers, thanks to one member of our Canadian Air Force we get to have the best visual of what one sees from the cockpit of a Canadian Air Force fighter jet during an aerial salute.
